Benefits for care home residents

Care home Resident Benefits*

According to Age UK some residents will be entitled to a handful of benefits helping them with the cost of living.

 

Winter fuel payment

The winter fuel payment is a one off payment that you may be eligible for if you are born on or before 25/09/1948 as long as you are not already receiving payments from Pension credit or job seeker’s allowance.

 

TV licence Discount

Want a TV in your Suite you can apply for a Accommodation for residential care which is only £7.50 per annum allowing you to have your own access to a TV.

 

Bus pass

Anyone over the age of 60 has the option to receive a free bus pass and travel concessions.

 

Free Prescription

Anyone over the age of 60 will also benefit from the free prescriptions available to them.

 

State pension

You may need care before being eligible to your state pension in these cases you will be eligible to Employment Support Allowance (ESA) this will be help with living costs if you’re unable to work.

 

Personal Independence Payment

If you struggle with everyday tasks and mobility you could be entitled to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) This is a benefit that is not a means-tested benefit meaning your earnings, other income and savings do not affect this.

 

Attendance Allowance

Attendance allowance is extra money you can claim if you are over the state pension age if you require extra help with personal care have a long-term physical or mental condition or disability you may qualify for Attendance Allowance.

 

Pension Credit

Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income. Pension Credit can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.

Pension Credit is separate from your State Pension.

You can get Pension Credit even if you have other income, savings or own your own home.
